A Good Business Blog Boosts Your Bottom Line

Small businesses owners and professionals find it a challenge to post blogs. Their excuses, and they may well be legitimate, are they can’t find the time, they have no clue about what to write, and they really dislike writing.

The end results are:

  • many attorneys who don’t include blogs in their marketing strategy.
  • professionals and business owners may post one or two blogs a month but they aren’t well written and not likely to get attention.
  • An increasing number hire someone else to do the writing for them.

The rationale here is that it costs less to hire someone then for them to take the time to write the blog posts. And a few write their own posts, enjoy doing the writing, and receive excellent feedback.
There are many Internet gurus who remark that you should be able to write a blog post in 20 to 30 minutes. I have yet to see any of my clients or others in the health or law profession take less than 30 minutes. They take great pains to make sure their information is correct and can’t be interpreted the wrong way.

When I write blog posts for my clients it usually takes me at least 30 minutes and sometimes more primarily because I am writing on a topic that is someone else’s niche, not mine, and I need to also be sure all my information is correct. It is also common for my clients to first give their approval of any of my posts before I post them.

For instance, one of my clients is an attorney and has corrected by posts because Michigan law says this or that. Since I’m not an attorney, I would never know those things. I actually wait for her approval for each post.

A Tip to Find a Topic
There are times when my mind is blank and I can’t think of a topic or there are so many topics I can’t make up my mind I ask myself:
What am I doing in my business this week that I could write a post about that would make my readers’ lives better?

If you’re a dentist it may be tips about what not to do to make your teeth look whiter. If you’re a business coach it may be tips on prospecting new customers during a golf game.  If you’re an internet marketer it may be that you’ve just learned about reviewing books on Amazon and you want to tell you subscribers about what you’ve learned.

The topics don’t have to be that complicated but they should be topics that you know and can talk about over the phone. You’ll want to be able to do that for sure after your prospective clients start asking you questions after they read your blog post.

To your online and offline successes.
