I’ve become very good at including something about myself in each blog post I write. I also include something about my clients when I write a blog post for them or sales copy or instruction for their clients. It helps readers relate to me because I usually tell them that I’ve had the same or similar problems and this is how I solved the problem.
It’s usually at that point that I share my opinions of the problem and the solutions. That helps readers feel more comfortable with me and I am more believable and have expertise in whatever topic it is that I’m exploring.
It also helps the reader to feel that I am open, transparent and not hiding anything from readers. Readers are more likely to read future posts. They are also more likely to at least look at a product if I’m marketing it as an affiliate because they have some trust in what I say.
Another reason why readers are likely to at least look at what I am marketing is that I never refer anyone to a product unless I’ve at least read it and/or know the person who created the product. I learned my lesson when someone I trusted referred me to a product and I referred that product to my readers. The problem was the product was not good, caused problems, and people had trouble getting their money returned even though that was guaranteed.
The person I trusted never examined the product he referred and neither did I. I don’t do that anymore. I don’t need to get stung and neither do my readers. One of my rules is to purchase and read or use every product I recommend. I know I’ll make up the cost when others purchase the same product.
I have another rule about writing and that is to share my resources with others. When my mother in law had a favorite recipe she would distribute the recipe but always leave out one important ingredient that made a huge difference. My cake was good but never as good as her cakes.
Lots of people that I’ve worked with do the same thing which explains why they are bringing in more revenue than I am. They leave out a detailed step that means the difference between success and major success. My belief is that whatever I do it will come back 10 fold. To be honest and realistic, I often wonder if I will live long enough to see that happen!
Keep in mind that blogging is a form of writing which means you need a clear idea about the purpose of your blog post. What you want to get from your blog will help you write better because you will be more focused. More focused means being completely honest.
To your success,
