Two of my clients were afraid that the new content I was proposing for their websites appeared too salesman like. They didn’t want to scare off their clients. I explained to them that using content and text that applied copywriting will get them what they wanted without chasing anyone away.
First I explained to them that when people visit their websites they are looking for answers to their problems. If, for example, they have a toenail fungus, and you can give them a recipe for getting rid of the fungus, they will probably purchase whatever you offer. They want to know what they need to do to sell their mother’s house. If you just give visitors information, they will return to your website but they won’t purchase anything because you haven’t asked them. You have been giving away the prize.
Content is everything you write for a client. Professional looking content and content that explains doesn’t have to be boring. The way you write and what you say can help your readers see you as someone they can trust, someone who is authentic and someone who has skill.
When I write for my own website I look for a hook, something that will capture the readers’ interest. If you’ve ever been one of my clients, the question about “where’s your hook?” is bound to come up in a conversation.
Rather than start the content with new information, I’m looking for an approach that will intrigue them and increase their curiosity.
To do that I need to know the demographics of my market – to whom am I appealing? What is their Age? Where so they live? What kind of problems and successes are they having? Where is their pain? What do I know that will relieve that pain?
An excellent way to build trust and become accepting to a potential client is to give them something related to what they want but at absolutely no cost. The idea is to give the readers to your website something to sign up for.
When they do – you put them on your marketing list
Now you can create your own information product for a nominal fee – let’s say $9 or $15 dollars. Once you’ve written it send the product to people you know for their feedback. I someone writes a great review of the product and you, ask them if you can use what they wrote as a testimonial for your business. This way even your testimonials are authentic.
Learn everything you can about “keywords” and how you can use them in what you write. Imagine someone going to Google and typing in the phrase how to sell products on my blog? “Selling products on a blog” is probably a suitable keyword phrase that should appear multiple times on your blog post and be seen in your content.
Then start a notebook and start collecting headline that move you. You will soon see there are patterns in the headlines you like. Use a modification of those headlines for your online headlines.
These suggestions will help get you website and blog noticed and the right people returning back to your website.
Much success in your endeavors.
